How to Connect External Speakers to a Macbook Air?

If you are a proud owner of a Macbook Air , you must be aware of the fact that it has an inbuilt speaker. For average users, the inbuilt speaker is enough to play to their favourite songs and movies efficiently. However, if you are a music lover and want to treat yourself with high quality music, you can choose to add external speakers to your MacBook.  There are two ways by which you can connect external speakers to your Mac. One is through a physical cable and other through a wireless Bluetooth connection. Let’s go in details of the two methods by which you can connect external speakers to your beloved Mac.

Connecting through a physical cable-

First, connect the power supply of the speakers to a power socket. In case, the external speakers are USB-powered, you can simply connect them to the USB port of your Macbook Air after connecting the power supply of the speakers, now it’s time to connect the external speakers to the device. Connect the audio cable from the external speakers into the headphone jack of your Mac.

In case, the cable line is not a 3.5 mm jack, first attach it to a 3.5 mm adapter and then connect that adapter to your Mac. Check the sound by turning on the speakers. If you find your Macbook is mute, turn up the volume by exerting pressure on Volume Up keys that are located on the top-right corner of the keyboard. Adjust the sound according to your need.

Connecting through a wireless Bluetooth connection-

First of all, check if your external speakers are Bluetooth compatible. If they are, then locate the power button of the speakers and turn it on. Now locate the System Preference option on your Macbook screen by clicking on the apple icon. Now you will see Bluetooth option in the third row of the option tray. It is off by default, switch it on. Once switched on, it will allow your Macbook to automatically search for nearby Bluetooth devices. In case, your external speakers are not visible in the Bluetooth window of your Mac, locate the Bluetooth button of your speaker and turn it on. Once your device is visible on the Bluetooth window of your Macbook, pair them up.

If you need to configure the sound of your external speakers, visit the System Preference option again and click on the Sound option located in the second row. There is a list of output options available in the Output Sub menu. In the list, click on your external Bluetooth speakers.  Treat yourself with some good music!
